Photography:

Photography has played a central role in my life. From my first
35mm Pentax to my latest 8mp Fuji, I've had a fairly decent
camera ever since the mid 80's. I had my own B/W darkroom setup
for a while. That was good fun, but expensive. I prefer digital
photography; it's so convenient. And Photoshop is the latter-day
darkroom:

3D:

I've been dabbling with 3D CG art for several years now. Initially
I was rendering the occasional still image using trueSpace.
They were each quite simple scenes really, as the examples below
demonstrate:
When the Metanoia documentary
film got underway, circa early 2005, it became clear that we
would need to find video for certain topics (ie mitochondria
and AI beetles) for which there was little or no available stock
video material online. Hence I began to experiment with 3D animation.
Admittedly my first attempts at animation were also quite simple
- by professional standards. But teaching yourself new tricks
and setting yourself production deadlines, that is not so simple
a task. All I knew were the basics:
I dabbled with Vue 6 for a few months, to produce 3D animations.
I loved the realism that it offered - although I do aim for
surrealism. But lately I prefer to use Carrara 6 Pro. I plan
to use Carrara in connection with SynthEyes2008 Motion Tracker,
to overlay 3D onto real video footage:
thanks for looking...
